Objective

Build a complete prognostic picture before surgery using the MSKCC nomogram suite.

Clinical scenario

Beyond the technical decision, the patient and the team need the mid- and long-term prognosis to choose between treatment strategies.

Step by step in the app

  1. 1

    Open the MSKCC Nomograms

In the More menu, open the MSKCC suite. All calculators run locally on the device.

  2. 2

    Run the pre-prostatectomy model

Provide PSA, grade group and stage to get biochemical recurrence at 2/5/7/10 years and the adverse features (ECE, LNI, SVI, OCD).

  3. 3

    Assess cancer-specific mortality

The same module estimates freedom from cancer death at 5/10/15 years.

  4. 4

    Check life expectancy

Use the life-expectancy module adjusted by health quartile to contextualize the treatment benefit.

  5. 5

    Combine with PSA density

PSA density and prostate volume round out the risk picture.

Clinical pearls

  • Adjusted life expectancy is decisive in older patients — it can change the indication for active treatment.
  • The MSKCC adverse features help anticipate the need for adjuvant therapy.
