Objective

Obtain an estimate of tumor volume and the percentage of the prostate involved from the biopsy.

Clinical scenario

Tumor volume informs aggressiveness and helps with planning — but it is rarely computed by hand. The app does it from the data you already entered.

Step by step in the app

  1. 1

    Complete the biopsy with CCL

For greater confidence, record the cancer core length (CCL) in each positive sector.

  2. 2

    Provide the prostate volume

The prostate volume (cc) feeds into the sector-volume fraction.

  3. 3

    Read the estimate

The app returns tumor volume in cc, the percentage of the prostate and a classification (small/moderate/large).

  4. 4

    Check the confidence level

Confidence is high when CCL and volume are available; low when data are missing.

Clinical pearls

  • Without CCL, the estimate still works, but with reduced confidence — record the CCL whenever the report provides it.
  • A large tumor volume reinforces attention to the risk of ECE and margin.
